Hot Potatoes

Listen to Sermon: Hot Potatoes
Ever play hot potato? I haven’t either. It’s actually a pretty sick game. But it sounds fun nonetheless. This Sunday at Engage we tossed around some hot potatoes. Not literally! Sorry, I’m sure that would make things interesting. Instead, over the last several weeks we have been asking people to submit some of the “hotter” questions of faith that have been burning up space in their heads. You know, the kind of questions about God that make you a bit uncomfortable when they come up in conversation. So in this discussion a group of us have humbly tried to address some of these burning questions.
Questions like:
- Was Jesus just an enlightened moral teacher guy or was he really God? That’s kind of crazy to think of a dude being God. And what does it really matter anyway?
- So a lot of religious people say God is in control. Really? If so, it appears like he isn’t doing such a good job of things.
- What about Hell? How could a good loving God banish people to eternal torment.
You know, light fare. We won’t answer everything. But maybe we can attempt to know God just a little better through asking some tough questions. We believe it to be time well spent exploring some of the things in life that matter most to how we live as human beings.
