Books: A Million Miles in a Thousand Years: What I Learned While Editing My Life - Donald Miller.

Donald Miller wrote a book called Blue Like Jazz and it helped a lot of people rediscover the revolutionary and compelling nature of the message of Christ. Miller finished his first book and his life lost momentum. He just stalled out and went into a deep depression. Donald Miller’s life floundered. Slowly his past and his story began to make sense as he poked deeper into his life’s story. A Million Miles in a Thousand Years details Miller’s journey as he turned a corner finding clarity on who he is and what story he and God are writing with his life. Miller writes in a compelling way about our lives and how our stories are being written by us and by God. Facing our past, living in the present, and looking into the future with God always means there is more. There’s always more.

Books: What’s So Amazing About Grace - Phillip Yancey. Look, if you grew up in a cold harsh judgmental religion, you need to read this book. It will be a breath of fresh air to your religiously worn out soul.

Free of Charge: Giving and Forgiving in a Culture Stripped of Grace - Miroslav Volf. This is one of the best books on love, grace, and forgiveness that I’ve ever read. This book is thought provoking and deep while still very digestible and challenging. Volf’s whole life and story is based on risking security for love. Volf thoughtfully and intellectually anchors the concept of God’s love for us into every day Monday through Friday life. If you’ve been a Christian for 30 years or find yourself skeptical of faith or if you are brand new to the whole conversation, this book is a great way to go deeper.

//New Sunday Morning Series: Stuck?

Stuck: Living in the tensions of life.
It’s easy for us to have compartments in our lives:  Work, Home, Church, Church friends, Work friends, Money, Relationships, Marriage, etc.  Within these compartments we face tensions between good things and best things.  The message of Christ challenges and equips us evaluate what is best over the good and make some tough choices as we live in our complicated 21st century world. In this series we will explore what Jesus says about these tensions: Family vs. Career, Spending, Giving, vs. Saving, Love vs. Security, Gender and Equality, Living in the Past vs. Looking Ahead, and Morality v.s. A Good Time.

So, here is your chance to shape Sunday mornings. Leave a message on the post and tell us what are the situations in your life where you feel stuck between two or three (even) very good things…these are things that you feel like you need to do or should be doing, yet they conflict with an other necessary part of your life.  Be honest, be real, and you don’t have to use your real name to leave a comment!  So, who will be brave enough to leave the first comment. . . .
